🍓 Cottagecore vs. Kawaii: How to Mix Two Cosy Aesthetics

If your saved folders are equal parts mushroom illustrations and pastel bunnies, you're living in the sweet spot between two of the internet's cosiest aesthetics: cottagecore and kawaii. They share a lot of DNA — but they're not identical. Here's how to tell them apart and blend them into one dreamy look.

What is cottagecore?

Cottagecore romanticises simple country living: wildflowers, baking bread, linen dresses, mushrooms, gardens and golden-hour picnics. Its palette is earthy and muted — sage green, cream, terracotta, soft butter yellow — and its mood is slow, nostalgic and gently rural.

What is kawaii?

Kawaii, the Japanese aesthetic of cuteness, is brighter and rounder. Think pastel pinks and lilacs, sparkly-eyed characters, hearts and bows.
